ホームステイのルールを確認するための英語表現

ホームステイのルールは家庭によって異なっています。到着して、挨拶などが終わったら、ホームステイのルールを質問しましょう。

基本的なルールを確認する質問

• Would you tell me about your house rules？
  ハウスルールを教えてくれますか？
• Are there any house rules I should be aware of?
  知っておくべき家のルールはありますか？

食事に関する質問

食事付きのホームステイでも、朝食はシリアルやパンなど、ホームステイ先にあるものを自分で用意して食べていくことが一般的です。ランチが含まれている場合も、夕食の残りを詰めたり、そこにある食材を使って用意することが多いです。夕食については、ホストが用意してくれることが一般的です。

• What time is dinner usually served?

洗濯に関する質問

洗濯についても、ホームステイごとにルールが異なっています。家族の分と一緒にやってくれるところ、自分の分は自分でやるところ、コインランドリーを使うように言われるところなど、それぞれです。洗濯は毎日ではなくて、週1回というところも多いです。また、干すところがなく、全て乾燥機で乾かすというところもあります。

お風呂・シャワーに関する質問

お風呂やシャワーについても、ホームステイごとにルールが異なっています。多いのは、シャワーの時間は5分以内、10分以内と決まっているところ。これは、湯沸かし器のシステムの違いによることが多いです。一軒家の場合、お湯がタンクに溜まるシステムのところが多く、この場合、お湯を使い切ってしまうと、次の人がシャワーを浴びようとすると水になってしまい、お湯が出るまで待たないといけなくなります。他にオーストラリアなど、水不足の地域では、シャワーの時間が制限されているところもあります。

インターネットに関する質問

インターネットについては、日本のように無制限で使用できるというタイプではなくて、容量制限があり、容量を超えると追加料金がかかってしまうタイプの契約になっている家もあります。このため、インターネットを使うときは、使用ルールを必ず確認しましょう。

自分の部屋に関する質問

自分の部屋については、自分で整理整頓をし、また、毎日ベッドメイキングをしましょう。また、寝るとき、着替えをするとき、集中して勉強をしたいとき以外は、自分の部屋のドアは開けておきましょう。いるのかいないのかがすぐわかりますし、ホスト側からも声をかけやすくなります。
